car makes a ticking sound when first cranked up. usually lasts until car warms up. have had the lifters changed twice (in the last two weeks) and was told the valves are not sticking. when the first set of lifters were put on, he also changed the oil and the serpentine belt. before the ticking started, the thermostat stuck and had to be replaced, but was caught before car overheated. do you have any suggestions?

replacing lifters is tricky. usualy, the cam and lifters are changed as a set. when only the lifters get changed, the wear pattern from the old lifters is there. the new lifters have a large wear in time before they are settled. as long as the valves are working ok, no drivability issues, then a break in period is needed for the lifters.
