ticking noise upon acceleration

Look for an exhaust leak where the manifold joins the cylinder head. You can listen for it through a rubber tube to find the exact location. The other possibility is a noisy cam follower (valve lifter). Because you hear it on acceleration, I lean toward the exhaust leak. I don't think plugs and wires will fix a ticking noise in the engine.
