There is choking noise coming from the speedometer of my Chevrolet Lumina 2006.

A choking noise comes from the speedometer of my Lumina 2006 model and the engine stops and remains totally dead for a considerable time and no function of car works not even the doors, horn or any thing. After some an hour or two it starts again but choking sounds remain coming from speedometer. can any guide what's the problem.
