Most likely puts the transmission or transfer case into a lower gear range for more power. This would usually be used when off road, or maybe pulling a boat out of the water. For normal everyday driving you never need to touch it. Also you might want to check in the owner manual just to be sure.
it works the 4 wheel drive. put the car into neutral and push it and you go into 4 low. keep speed below 25 and make sure you are not on dry pavement.
