Im having the same problem..I have been told that these particular cars are developing leaks in the rubber hose on hose connecting from the fuel filter to the tank. Its not costly but is very important to get serviced soon...
Mostly what I've seen is that the access cover for the fuel pump leaks, but this is a problem that requires an immediate inspection by a trained technician. You don't want to postpone this or try it yourself if you aren't capable of finding and repairing a fuel leak.
I just recieved a letter from Saturn about all 2006 Ions having gas leaks on the gas module in warm states - they sent a letter saying they will cover these problems and pay all expenses to have fixed - you can call me for more info 321-37-9513
I just took my Saturn Ion to the dealership near me to have this issue fixed. It was all covered under the ecalls "special Coverage".. It was replaced free of charge. I would HIGHLY suggest you do the same :) Good Luck!!
What type of dealership did you go to since the Saturn dealerships have closed? Thank you.
What year is your saturn? I'm having this problem with my 2006
I just had my 2006 Ion repaired for the gas fumes issue. I called GM customer service and they arranged a service appointment with my local Chevy dealer. As you said, it was a "special coverage" repair so free of charge if vehicle has under 120,000 miles or is less than 10 years old.
I had similar problems with the 2007 Ion. One was the fuel pump (gas smell) and the other is the gas pedal not accelerating. So far there is an official recall for the fuel pump to be replaced. The dealership should pay for a tow of the vehicle and complete repair. They didn't fess up on mine until they made the official recall. But they reimbursed me for the out-of-pocket expense for the repair. Now I am waiting for the recall on the gas pedals. Nothing but problems since I have owned this car.

You can call the Saturn Customer Relations Center (for Saturn owners): 1-800-553-6000. They can help you get to a Saturn authorized dealer to have it diagnosed to see if it's covered under the "Special Coverage"
Hi what type of dealership did you go to? Since the Saturns dealerships have closed down?
