Love my CRV, but recently has been stalling, sometimes during highway speeds, mostly just after starting. It always restarts, but sometimes witth 3-10 seconds of cranking. Anyone out there with this issue? or suggestions? Runs great otherwise. Bill

I am not sure if this question has been recently answered. Many things could be the potential problem. Without seeing the car first hand it is hard to be more accurate. Start by cleaning the throttle body, and replacing the spark plugs if they have not recently been changed. It may be a good opportunity to replace or inspect the air filter and fuel filter as they are easily accessible in the engine compartment. On this engine/year it is very important to check the valve clearances as part of a regular tune up. A tight valve will cause failure of the valve and decrease engine vacuum which on this engine causing a drop in vacuum will effect the MAP sensor value. The CR-V has a fuel pump main relay under the driver's side of the dash which also give problems but start with the basics. The idle control system can also be the root of the problem but eliminate basic maintainence items first unless you know these items have recently been checked adjusted or replaced.
my 98 crv would stall at idel after 5 min. also would intermitently stall on road. id have 2 people.start car and let run till it dies.pull spark plug and see if u get a spark. if no spark id replace the ignitor. fixed my bros honda accord w no start and my crv stalling. located inside distributor assy.
There is a problem with this model's, and several others, ignition switches. Call you Honda dealer and make some noise to get it for free!
we had the same problem. 9 months of stalling at random times. would always restart. mechanics couldn't replicate it. finally wouldn't start at all. mechanic replaced the "ignition control module." we are now 10 days stall free. http://www.ehow.com/about_5382123_ignition-module-problems.html
Thanks for the ideas, I will start with the maintenance items, see what happens. Your suggestions should keep me from the shop a few more days!
