If the check engine light comes on there will be fault codes stored in the computer in your car that should identify where the problem is. A scan tool is needed to retrieve the codes. Even if no codes were stored a professional grade scan tool allows a technician to monitor electronic sensors on the engine without having to do intrusive testing at each sensor.
