Car only has 29K miles and Mercedes is telling me this fix this sensor is $1,300! Isn't there some type of federal mandate on this since it is related to the restraint system?

8 years is a long time regardless of mileage. As far as warranty , are you the original owner and if so , do you still have the booklets that came with the vehicle when sold? What specific sensor is faulty and did they give you any possible causes?
