My speedometer started going on and off for the past few months. It would work for a few days and then not, or sometimes it would jump up and down. Now it's totally dead. Any ideas what it would be. Is it cable driven? Is that easily fixed? Thanks

Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is a some what common failure, it should bring on the Check Engine Light and cause cruise control to stop working if it is the speed sensor at the gearbox that has failed (rear of trans on top near firewall), if everything works except speedometer it may be the instrument cluster gauge that has failed.
