Sometimes Cruise control won’t engage while driving

Driving with cruise on…need to break for whatever reason…press resume won’t engage…..press set won’t engage. Green light for cruise is on. Turn cruise off and on multiple times and try to set, nothing. Then maybe 5-10 miles down the road try again and it works. Continuing on, it may re-engage when needed but many times when I have to press brake again it won’t engage again. The one thing I found is that if I pull over, shut the car off and restart..then it starts working again

Hello, I would suggest some diagnostic testing related to the speed control system. It would be best to see if there is a signal issue with the brake light switch or the other switch at the master cylinder which is preventing the system from safely operating at all times. No warning lights would come up for this by the way. But if the system stops working, it is not seeing everything it needs to see to safety operate.
