What is your question?
Have a 2012 Honda Fit, Bought the car new, has about 155,739 Kilometers, The transmission has not been looked at well. The fluid has been changed once. For the last few years the Fit has had issues changing gears. I did a double drain and fill of the Transmission fluid in 2020 thought that might help, Still having the same issue with changing gears, so I thought Would take the car in for a transmission fluid change and change the inline filter, maybe that would help with the issue. I talked to my local Honda dealer and was told not to change the inline transmission filter because it could cause particulate/shavings to get dislodged and may make the transmission worse and possibly create larger issues with the transmission. When reading online a sign your Transmission Fluid Filter is clogged is Problems Changing Gears. So would it make sense to change the inline transmission filter? I’m looking for other auto mechanic recommendations.
How long has your 2012 Honda Fit had this problem?
3-4 years

Hello, the transmission fluid filter is not a "maintenance item" and is not in the maintenance guide for replacement. As a result, I wouldn't see the need to replace it unless you have a known concern with the filter itself. I currently operate a Honda service department and can tell you that I've never once seen one replaced in our workshop. I don't think changing it would hurt you, but I don't think it will help you either. Your concern sounds like an internal transmission mechanical concern, but requires hands on testing.
