In addition, the link below contains a picture of the shifter tube under dash that may be helpful: https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-c2630_ds524623 On many Ford/Lincoln vehicles, It is common for these 'torx drive' bolts (shown in the pic) to work loose and cause gear selection problems... Including park position .. Usually the shift lever feels loose or sloppy while trying to shift.
Hello, You will need to inspect the linkage at both ends to determine if there is a worn bushing or other missing or broken parts. When it feels too loose to go into park, it is unlikely that the cable can stretch that far.
