rough idle bogs and backfires

Sounds like for one thing you could have an exhaust restriction - like a restricted catalytic converter. Sounds also like you could have a serious vacuum leak at the engine and/or an air intake leak. A diagnosis by a qualified technician is required to really pin point the source of your problem; but I wouldn't wait because further damage from raw fuel consumption could be occurring.
