The original engine spun a bearing at 130K miles, so I acquired a (supposedly identical) used engine with an alleged 27K miles on it. Upon completion of the swap, I started the engine, but it ran rough. This is not uncommon with used engines that may have been sitting idle for some time, so I hoped it would smooth out. It did begin to run a little better after a few minutes, but my "check engine" light warned of problems. After replacing a faulty fuel injector, the only code that shows is P0016. The engine has very little power, and will not rev or pull well at all. I have changed the Crankshaft Position Sensor, Camshaft Position Sensor, the solenoid that diverts oilflow for the variable camshaft timing, and inspected the crankshaft reluctor wheel and found no damage. None of my attempts have helped at all, as I still get the same code, P0016. I tried to buy a Chilton's or Haynes manual so I could sheck the crank/cam timing, but no service manuals are available. Please Help!

This code is pretty much a functional check of the VCT (Variable Camshaft Timing) Possible causes: -incorrect camshaft timing -camshaft advance mechanism binding -stuck VCT solenoid A common cause is an incorrect oil, sludge in the engine or clogged oil ports to the VCT, stuck VCT solenoid. It is possible that the engine was sitting for a while in the salvage yard and oil passages are clogged. Sometimes you can open an oil filter and you can see coffee grind looking contamination inside the filter element. This could cause clogs also. Zee
