When the heater is plugged in, prolonged corrosion could cause a resistive short, increasing the risk of overheated or melted wiring which can increase the risk of a fire.
For vehicles equipped with an optional engine block heater, the wiring connector for the heater may become contaminated with water and other contaminants. This can lead to the overheating and melting of wiring and a fire hazard. Dealers will inspect and seal the block heater cable or replace it as needed free of charge to resolve the concern.
