Certain vehicles may have been assembled with a transmission range sensor (TRS) that was calibrated out of specification for reverse gear. If this condition exists, the transmission may not properly engage reverse gear and/or if reverse gear does engage, the "R" indicator on the dash or the backup lamps may not illuminate. These conditions increase the risk of a crash or a pedestrian being struck due to the vehicle's not signaling it is in reverse. Dealers will inspect and replace the transmission range sensor as necessary to correct this concern. The Ford recall number is 12C23.
Ford F-150 Recalls
Incorrect software for the occupant classification system module (OCSM) may have been installed on certain vehicles. Under certain driving conditions, the OCSM may misclassify the passenger seat occupant such that the passenger side airbag does not deploy when it should, does not deploy as intended, or deploys when it should not. Failure in any of these ways will increase the risk of injury to the passenger seat occupant. Dealers will replace the OCSM to correct this concern. The Ford recall number is 12S31.
The brake/shift interlock can fail, allowing the transmission to be shifted into park without depressing the brake pedal. If the transmission were shifted into gear without depressing the brake pedal, a crash or injury to a nearby pedestrian could result. Dealers will inspect the brake shift interlock switch function and replace the switch if necessary.
Vehicles sold or currently registered in states using corrosive chemicals to de-ice the roads may have fuel tank straps that can rust prematurely and fail. If the fuel tank were to shift as a result of a broken strap, the fuel lines could separate or the fuel tank could contact the ground. In either case, a fuel leak could develop, increasing the risk of a fire. Dealers will replace the fuel tank straps with straps that have increased corrosion protection. Early in the campaign, if replacement straps are not available, dealers may install a cable support under the strap as an interim repair or a steel reinforcement over the existing strap as a permanent repair. The clock spring jumper wire behind the driver's air bag may come into contact with the lower horn plate, resulting in damage to the wiring. If this occurs, the air bag warning light may illuminate or the driver's air bag could deploy unexpectedly, increasing the risk of injury or a loss of vehicle control. Dealers will replace the jumper wire with a new design, which includes a protective mesh cover. This recall is expected to begin on February 28, 2011.
The body control module (BCM) may develop an internal electrical short. This may cause the BCM to overheat, which can lead to a vehicle fire. Dealers will inspect the BCM and replace it as necessary. This recall is expected to begin on March 7, 2011. The Ford recall number is 10S14.
The door handle spring retainer may break, which can prevent the door handle from returning to the stowed position. In the event of a side impact crash, the door latch could release, resulting in unexpected opening of the door. Dealers will first inspect and repair door handles that are loose. Once parts are available, all interior door handles will be inspected and repaired or replaced as necessary. This recall is scheduled to begin on February 14, 2011. The Ford recall number is 11S15.
Ford is recalling certain 2011 F-150, F-250, F-350, F-450, F550, Edge, and Lincoln MKX vehicles due to a possible internal electrical short in the throttle body control module. If an electrical short develops, overheating of the control module may occur, which could result in a fire. Dealers will inspect and replace the throttle body control module as necessary.
Ford has recalled certain 2009 F150 trucks for a concern with the brake stop lamp switch. On some vehicles, the stop lamp switch may be maladjusted, which can cause a delay in illumination of the brake lights. This could pose a safety concern and increase the risk of an accident. Dealers will remove and reinstall the brake stop lamp switch, adjusting the position.
Ford has recalled certain 2005–2006 F-150 and Lincoln Mark LT trucks for a concern with the brake booster vacuum supply hose. On some vehicles, the hose may swell where it attaches to the intake manifold, causing it to lose retention force. This may cause the hose to become detached from the fitting, which can result in reduced vehicle braking power. Dealers will replace the rubber hose on the brake booster vacuum supply assembly.
