Drive Train
THIS WILL ALLOW THE OPERATOR TO INADVERTENTLY SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO GEAR WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH OR INJURY TO A NEARBY PEDESTRIAN.
The brake/shift interlock can fail, allowing the transmission to be shifted into park without depressing the brake pedal. If the transmission were shifted into gear without depressing the brake pedal, a crash or injury to a nearby pedestrian could result. Dealers will inspect the brake shift interlock switch function and replace the switch if necessary.
Ford will notify owners of affected vehicles beginning December 19, 2011. If you are experiencing problems with the transmission shift interlock, or you don't receive notification and you feel you should have, please contact your dealer. It's helpful to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) when you call.
