What is your question?
WELL, HERE GOES. I HAVE A 2008 CANYON CREW CAB, LOADED TO THE GILS (ALL OPTIONS AVAILABLE) BEEN A GOOD TRUCK FOR 34,000 MILES, OWNERSHIP NEW SINCE SEPT. 2008. I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK INTO THE DEALER TWICE FOR REAR BRAKE SQUEAL. ONCE AT 7000 MILES AND THEN AT 17,000 MILES. BOTH TIMES THEY SAID IT WAS CAUSED BY BRAKE DUST AND THAT IT WAS A NORMAL MAINTENANCE ITEM. HOGWASH. IT STARTED ABOUT 3000 MILE AND HAS NOT QUITE. I FOUND OUT TODAY THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM WAS FROM ISUZU. REALIZING THAT GM BUILDS THE TRUCK FOR ISUZA, ISUZA WOULD OBIOUSLY SUPPLY SOME ITEMS TO GM. MY BELIEF IS THIS, IT IS POORLY DESIGNED, IT IS CHEAP AND UNDER ENGINEERED. LET'S FACE IT, IT WAS BUILT WITH COSTS IN MIND AND THE MATERIALS USED FOR BRAKE SHOES THESE DAYS ALSO ADDS TO THE SCOPE OF THE PROBLEM. NOW I'M AT A CROSS-ROAD. DO I INSTALL REAR DIC BRAKES ($1300.00 KIT FROM SSBC) AND MOVE ON OR GET RID OF IT ? UNLESS SOMEONE HAS AN ANSWER BETTER THAN THIS AND OBIUSLY GM DOES NOT WANT TO FESS UP, WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST? WHAT A SHAME TO SPEND HARD ERNED MONEY LIKE THIS AND NOT GET THE PLEASURE OF THE EXPENDITURE.

Id try scuffing the shoes and the drums, maybe resurfacing the drums. Then put a little brake lube between the shoes and where they contact the backing plate NOT BETWEEN THE SHOE AND THE DRUM. Most brake noises that are not due to wear are vibration noises much like running your finger around the rim of a wine glass. Might even be able to get rid of the noise just by switching the drums from left to right.
If you are going to replace the brake shoes, try to purchase ceramic ones. They do make them now for your Canyon. I plan to do just that when I replace my brakes.
