What does it mean if my brand new struts / shocks are rattling slash clinking when I drive?

It drives fine it just clanks when I hit cracks in the road when I hit bumps, it doesn't feel loose it doesn't feel squirrely it just makes a lot of noise and it freaks me out. I have brand new struts and shocks I ordered them offline and they were sent to my house and a friend installed them a friend who is a mechanic and I went and had my alignment done at an actual mechanic shop after my struts were done and they said everything was fine but they themselves did not drive it
