AWD differential said to be irreparable due to rear end parts having no serial numbers? I bought the 2010 from a used car lot [please don't judge] and two days later I see the AWD differential disabled, service required alert. Well, it can't be fixed. I was reimbursed partially by the used car fellow, BUT my question is, WILL all season tires help me? My mechanic said "tires won't help you." ?? And my beautiful Bjorn is skidding in the rain!!? Please help me..

Your awd is not shot and is definitely not unable to be repaired. You are having an issue with the computer module made by haldex awd. Your car is a generation 4 unit and a technician can replace parts and find software to upload to your car to program it based off of your cars vin number. I would go on IPD's website and if you have questions definitely give them a call. Tires are very important but without a functional awd system your car will not perform as it should. I highly recommend finding a shop that specializes in imports and has software to work on volvo cars a reputable transmission shop may be your best bet. The repair should cost about as much as a set of tires have them service the pump and filter and change the haldex fluid and the gear oil in the differential while they are in there. Volvo labels everything as sealed for life and that is not the case. Fluid changes and maintenance will keep your car running very happy. There are several cars just like yours with half a million miles on them running happy. I am a volvo enthusiast myself my xc70 has over 200k miles on it and it still my favorite car and it is running great.
