What is your question?
3 times now, my car has made a sudden pause with a loud noise, all lights go off on instrument panel and car stalls. each time I wait a few minutes, start car, still no instrument panel lights or power anything, am able to drive car home, once I turn it off I start again and power comes back but car will no longer start. I have had it to dealer mechanic twice and independent mechanic once. They hook it to diagnostic machine which says nothing is wrong with the car. After disconnecting car from diagnostic, car runs fine for a few weeks until it does it again. Dealership recommended replacing CEM but said they can't guarantee that is the problem.

It does sound like a CEM problem, I used to be a Volvo Dealership Tech, but why the heck can't the Dealership stand behind their repairs? Is there another Volvo Dealership to try?
You definitely have an unusual problem. Intermittent issues can be very hard to solve since Murphy's Law usually takes effect (it doesn't happen when you take it to the shop). The best recommendation I could give is to tow it in the next time it stops so they can have a first hand look at the problem. Be very specific that they don't attempt to start it unless the technician is present. Unfortunately the problem may still not be discovered and may need to get worse before it gets better. I would find a shop/dealer you have a good relationship with and take it to them each time it happens until it's identified. Cars today are all computer controlled and unfortunately it's not an exact science. If you just start replacing recommend parts from your technician it can get expensive but sometimes you have to use the expertise of the technician's recommendations and process of elimination to find the problem. Sorry I don't have a more definite answer for you but unfortunately these problems do arise from time to time.
No unfortunately there is not. I live in Missouri and we have none and there is one in Kansas. I am just hesitant to replace the CEM because in reading on this page and on other blog pages there are people who have replaced the CEM and still are having the same problem after the CEM was replaced. Also, When I asked the dealer what the codes were all he said kicked out was miscommunication no numbers. He also said that no mechanic can give you a guarantee, that it is volvo's policy to start with CEM module and if that doesn't fix problem then they will look for other problems but not until you replace CEM first
