Interior howling while driving in heavy rain?

Had a very high pitched interior howl (more a scream) while driving in heavy rain. Turned off the fans to see if it was a bent blade. Seemed to come from the dash and then behind the front seat. This happened at least eight times on a two hour drive. Have had the car for nearly two years but rain is pretty rare here.
