VOLVO CHANGED THE BATTERY FOR YEARS BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT START IF IT SET FOR A FEW DAYS,NOW THE CAR IS LESS THAN 5 YRS OLD AND THE ALTERNATOR IS GONE, I GET ALL MY MAINTENANCE DONE ON TIME SO THIS IS A $1600 SURPRISE FOR ME. I TOOK IT TO VOLVO AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND ALL SYSTEMS SHUT DOWN A FEW DAYS LATER. I DON'T WANT TO PAY FOR A SERVICE THAT MAY HAVE BEEN AVOIDED.

If the alternator failed, the electrical system will shut down. An alternator failing after 4 - 5 years is not uncommon. $1,600 to replace it is high. $800 - $900 to replace is more in line.
how did you resolve issue? I am in the same predicament and trying to avoid high costs if it is a simpler issue that is easier on my pockets
My Volvo does the same thing, I am left with 20,000 left on my warranty and I want to get this issue resolved asap...the first time I had it towed in, it was Thanksgiving morning and when I started my car there was a loud BANG and everything was dead. It has happened 2 more times now in 8 months. I don't even know what they did for me, I will check my service slip and update this .
