How long after oil change should oil look black on dipstick?

Hey Jeremy, The oil will stay light in color for a couple thousand miles then start to darken. If the engine has a lot of carbon buildup inside it you could see this darken more rapidly. If you change the oil every 5,000 - 7,500 miles you should be fine with this engine. Good luck with your first car!
