Cost to replace auomatic transmission?

I'm not sure you can find these anywhere except straight from Volvo, and they will be re-manufactured, which is similar to rebuilt except more thorough. Labor will run around $1K and not sure about the trans, but I'd say $1700-$2500 is a good estimate. Call around to all the Volvo and transmission shops and see who will offer the best price, but don't forget a few things. After the transmission is replaced, the transmission cooler and lines should be flushed, the transmission computer software updated (if needed) and the new trans needs to go through an adaptation to make it shift correctly. If the shop is unfamiliar with these things they will charge less but you'll be getting inferior service.
