What is your question?
I've owned this car for about 1.5 yrs. I originally bought it from a local dealership with 72K miles. It now has 79K miles. I happened to check the transmission fluid, and noticed it very dark. I took it to the same dealership, and they said they would not recommend changing it because at this point, if they flushed it, it would likely do more harm than good. Basically I was being told to wait for it to eventually fail. I am considering selling it, and don't want to pass on a problem to someone else.

Of course, this is the best way to destroy a transmission. It's like a doctor saying: why would you quit smoking, you will die anyway... Not true. I have serviced many Volvo and other transmissions. Fluid change is necessary to get more life out of the transmission. The S80's GM tranny even more sensitive (I have replaced few also) for maintenance. Get the ATF changed - I'd suggest a complete flush with the CORRECT ATF!! and here comes the important thing: RESET THE ATF COUNTER! Believe it or not, the transmission will adjust the shift time to the new fluid. Cool, ha? The bad thing is, you need Vadis , Vida or Dice diagnostic system to be able to reset it. The dealer or Volvo specialty shops should have one. Zee
Great analogy Zee! And great advice too! I suggest you find another shop, this dealer is offering poor advice on what to do with a poorly serviced vehicle (That they sold you!). Look for another Volvo shop in your area here: http://repairpal.com/volvo-repair-in-round-rock-texas
