replaced battery and lights, horn, fan and wipers come on but no dash or igniton

I connected the positive terminal and the vent tube as directed, and when I connected the negative terminal, the horn, lights, wipers anf fan came on and wouldn't stop. No dash functions or lights, nothing from ignition switch. I disconnected the negative terminal, leaving positive cnnected and waited 30 min, but when reconnected negative terminal, same result.

I'm concerned that the battery is being connected backwards.
If your battery cables are both black, which is common with european autos, it is easy to do.
Make sure the negative battery cable is being hooked to the minus (-) sign, and that it runs directly to the body of the car.
