Does replacing the key for the s80 work

What is your question?

Car shuts down like what looks like many others of this make and model. Bought it on Sunday engine light in Monday. Haven't been able to drive it. It's in the shape Volvo specialist seem to be at a loss. Did getting a new key ever work for anyone having these problems. Seems like I smelled something burning the two times it happened under the hood. I really need answers this was a Mother's Day gift that seems to have gone sideways.
