I am attempting to fix erratic shifting after my car heats up as I continue to read that shift solenoids tend to fail due to heat. I dont know the difference between the two but I dont want to replace something I dont need. Thanks for any feedback

The shift interlock solinoid will not cause any drivability concerns. Meaning it has no effect on the transmission shifts. It only allows the shifter to move or not. As for the erratic shifting, you need to start with fluid level and condition. Also, is there any codes to indicate the computers also recognize a problem?
