Cause of random sporadic/erratic clicking when using heated steering wheel

Anywhere from 5-20 minutes of having the heated steering wheel on a sporadic/erratic clicking noise starts and the steering wheel no longer has heat. The noise can be heard throughout the cabin, sounding like surround sound from the speakers?? It does sound like the same 'click' that can be heard one time when manually turning the heated steering on or off but becomes very sporadic and erratic. It will eventually stop if I manually turn off the heated steering wheel which seems to defeat the purpose of having one
What makes this problem better or worse?
It's worse after car is warmed up when using the heated steering wheel.
How long has your 2018 Volvo S60 had this problem?
Since I bought the car brand new in Feb 2019
