Should a transmission fail on a vehicle that only has 54K miles on it?

That's what I thought. Initially they were going to charge me over $6100 to fix it. After complaining that a new tranny at 54K was not cool they contacted volvo & now they tell me they can do it for about $2500. They told me Volvo offered to pick up some of it but because the car is 9 years old they would not cover the whole thing. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I mean it's better than $6100 but still, way low miles. I'm going to seek some legal advice to make sure I have all of my bases covered before I give them the go ahead. Ya never know...

2500 not bad for a new volvo tranny - i'd take that deal and run.

Did you have to do the full replacement? My transmission just gave out too at 85k. Won't go into any gear. Any chance the dealer will partially cover mine at 85k, or is that too far out (compared to 54k)? Need to call a few places on monday.
