The brake pad has a part installed called a brake wear indicator. It is just a little tab of metal that can contact the brake rotor when the pads get low enough. It vibrates producing a loud noise, but when the brakes are applied the vibration stops. See the link here for a few great shops to handle your brake job.

Hello, If you hear this from the brake pedal area then this is a faulty power brake booster. This is fairly common on these models...best to have a shop verify this.
