My 2001 volvo S40 radiator fan stopped working after an accident where the radiator was damaged and replaced. If i apply direct power to it then it works fine but will not start automatically when it heats up.If I remove the connection at the sensor located just under the engine outlet to the radiator then fan starts and will run continuously for a few mins after the engine is stopped.I am located in the Fiji Islands and there are no service centres hia.Apart from this I have a host of other problems but lets start wid this one.I had to include a zip code otherwise i wud not b able to post. Thanks

It's funny, but when people say there from Beverly Hills they are almost always from outside the U.S. Thanks for checking in from Fiji. The radiator fan is controlled by the engine control module, and when you disconnect the coolant temperature sensor, the module will activate the fan, which it is doing now (normal). This means most of the system is functional, however for some reason the fan is not coming on normally when the engine warms up. This is likely a two speed fan, and it's possible the low speed part is inoperable. Is the engine getting hot and that's how you determined there's a problem? Is your check engine light on and have you checked the codes in the module?
