My car is getting harder to start. Volvo dealer says I need a new set of battery cables @ $650. The snaking of the new cable to the starteris time consuming thus the cost, the car has 173k miles and runs good. Any advice?

what seems to be wrong with the cables is it the battery terminals if so you can clean that with a wire brush and some WD-40
If the cables are causing a hard start, then they should be failing a "Voltage drop test". This test will determine if there is high resistance in the cables, ask them for the results of the test, and if they don't have those results, ask them how they tested the cables. Also, do what sinautoscan recommended and clean the terminals. These models can have problems with leaking injectors, leaking fuel pressure regulators and bad idle air valves. Are there any fault codes stored in the engine control module? Does the control module have the latest software available? I know this is a ton of questions, but there are many other things that may cause this problem, and if the cables are bad, they should be able to give you the specifications for the voltage drop test.
