Told that turbo engine needs to be replaced

What is your question?

Car runs louder than usual, took it to station and was told it would nost 3000 for a new turbo engine. The car still runs fine, does anyone know if the turbo really needs to be replaced. If I drive it locally, it seems fine. At some point, will the defected turbo kill the engine?

It's very difficult here to tell what is happening, so it's best to take it to another shop for a second opinion. Don't tell the second shop what the first one said until after they diagnose the issue. Good luck!
