What is your question?
I have a 1994 volvo 850 that will not come out of park without pushing the shifter relase button. usually you just pull up on the knob and it comes out of park, Any ideas what's going on?

Yes, the most common issue with these is the shift lock micro-switch. A shop should charge about an hour to replace this part and the part is probably $20 or so.
I have a '96 Volvo 850 that does the same thing. I found out yesterday from my mechanic that this is common. Volvo recalled 115,000 850's and 960's (years 1994-1996) back in 1998 to replace the switch for free under Service Campaign 76. The dealer should still honor this and replace the switch at no charge. Good Luck.
Do you know where it's located? thanks for your help!!!
Yes, it's in the shifter mechanism. You need to remove the center console and then splice in a new micro-switch. Look over at ipdusa.com, they sell the part and may have instructions. It's not too difficult but it is tricky to get everything apart and back together correctly if your unfamiliar with all the parts.
