Ignition switch could it send reading as timing belt issues

My 2006 Volkswagen Touareg V8 has a brand new battery but won't start. It sounds like it's trying to turn over but won't. And kills my new battery quickly. When having it diagnosed it read timing belt. But I have a brand new timing belt and when trying to start it doesn't turn slow nor fast nor does it make grinding sounds. It sounds quite just won't start. Could this be the iqnotiion switch and reading timing belt as a faulty...
