What is your question?
2017 Tiguan threw camshaft sensor position error code, went away after a fill up. 48 hours later car starts showing check engine light, EDC light (think that’s what it’s called), and battery light. First shop said it needs a timing chain, now the VW shop is saying they need to charge $600 to diagnose if the engine is close to blown, which wasn’t an issue at the other shop (no shavings in the oil, no misfire). The whole car only has 60k miles with regular oil changes and no previous issues or indicators showing that there would be an issue.

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Ah, your 2017 VW Tiguan's throwing more lights than a disco ball, and now everyone’s talking timing chain! At 60k miles with regular oil changes, it’s surprising to hear that. The camshaft sensor code popping up could point to a timing issue, but without the usual suspects like engine shavings or misfires, I'd hesitate to call it a blown engine just yet. It could be a sensor or a minor timing alignment issue. $600 just to diagnose seems steep—maybe it’s time for a second, second opinion before someone gives your wallet a workout!
