What is your question?
I was driving to work. Everything running well, no noises or unusual activity. Then all of a sudden the car started really vibrating and the EPC light came on. I pulled over and had it towed to my trusted mechanic. They replaced the spark plugs and coils. That did not fix the shaking. Had it towed to VW of Coachella Valley, CA. I have taken the car there before. They said that a spark plug blew off and the j-hook did damage to the cylinder. They said that they have never seen it before. The car is well maintained. I tried calling VW of America and sat on the phone for over an hour without any updates.

Hi, my name is Devin. I am an auto repair expert with the Car Genius team here at RepairPal. So sorry to hear you're having trouble with your Passat. It sounds like the spark plug's damage to the cylinder is significant. If the cylinder is severely damaged, repairing it may involve extensive work like machining or rebuilding the engine. However, replacing the entire engine can sometimes be more cost-effective and reliable, especially if the damage is beyond repair or cheaper than fixing individual components. Since your car has been well-maintained, you might want to explore options like a remanufactured engine or a lower-mileage used engine if a full replacement is necessary. If you need more advice, have any other questions about your vehicle, or would like to get connected to a RepairPal Certified shop near you, we have you covered.
