What is your question?
My 2014 VW Passat drives just fine until I go up a hill, then the RPMs hover around 3000 and the car won’t shift and the EPC light comes on. Once I turn the car off and then back on, the EPC light is no longer showing. The car doesn’t seem to lose any power, doesn’t shake or make any abnormal sounds, it just won’t shift like normal until I slow down/stop or reach level ground. Tried having it tested but the light goes off once the car is turned off so it doesn’t find any codes to tell me what’s going on. My car is almost due for its 60k mile maintenancing, would that have anything to do with it? The person helping me read the code at the auto parts store said it sounded like a transmission problem only to refer me to a shop her uncle owns. I’d like to avoid paying a shop hundreds of dollars with no real guarantee they can even diagnose what the problem is, if I don’t have to. Any suggestions?

The car needs to be scanned for codes. There are codes stored in the system but a basic auto parts store scanner can't read them. You will need to bring this to a shop equipped to work on VW. Post back up with the codes and we can help but there are many possibilities. Alex
