What would be reasons for a bevel box seal leak?

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. Your vehicle is 18 years old. Seals are made of rubber and often other materials such as metal. Rubber dry rots in time causing weakness. It is possible leakage is due to this weakness. It is possible it is due to rotational wear. It's difficult to say without a physical inspection of the bevel box and transfer unit. Hands on inspection and visual understanding of the condition is important for figuring it all out. So, I would recommend you reach out to a local shop near you for guidance. https://repairpal.com/auto-repair-near-me Click the link or call us at 877-913-1554.
