What is your question?
Car is new to us. Previous owner says he replaced the camshaft chain and the tensioner. To troubleshoot, I've replaced: 1) oil and filter with new 2) Camshaft position sensor - note that the snap on the connector is broken. I super-glued connector in place 3) Camshaft position solenoid I have the camshaft chain cover off currently. I have little experience with this, but things seem ok. Nothing to compare that to, though. Previously, the p0011 code would take 20 or so miles to pop up after a battery-disconnected reset of codes. Now, with the engine making a new noise, the code pops in just a few blocks. I don't see what might be making the noise.
How long has your 2006 Volkswagen Passat had this problem?
since we got the car, a couple months ago

Have you checked the camshaft adjuster and valve? If you remove the valve cover and the camshaft adjuster plastic guides are missing, noise may result and the code may set. It's merely a guess. Hands on testing is strongly recommended - by a technician near you that has experience with this. A VW workshop manual and tools handy are helpful in determining what is happening. https://repairpal.com/auto-repair-near-me Click the link or call us at 877-913-1554.
