i have no heat! there is air blowing through but it never gets hot. is there anything i can check myself before i take it into the shop? i.e. fuses, belts, etc.

If the coolant operating temperature is normal, there might be a problem with the air flow regulator flaps. It isn't something that you can easily check, better to take it to a repair shop. Zee
check your coolant level. vw is notorious for getting air pockets. the heater core is the highest point of the cooling system so thats where the air pocket will be. if you pull back the contube covering the heater hoses at the heater core the hose will have a small hole in it for a bleeder. warm the car up until the cooling fans come on then pull the hose back to expose the hole and see if coolant comes out or not.

VW dealer wanted to charge me $2500 to replace heater core! I had the heater core flushed and its nice and toasty now!!
