What does it mean when you have a misfire on the 3rd cylinder

What is your question?

I took my 2002 Volkswagen Passat 1.8l into a mechanic and he said that I had a misfire on the 3 cylinder. I don't hear anything that is unusual but then I'm not a mechanic.LOl Thats all that they told me

What makes this problem better or worse?

When I purchased from auction I took it in for diagnostic and that was told to me

How long has your 2002 Volkswagen Passat had this problem?

Not sure it was that way after auction purchase
