Hi, my name is Devin. I am an auto repair expert with the Car Genius team here at RepairPal. So sorry to hear you're having trouble with your vehicle. If you're replacing the ignition lock cylinder in your Jetta and the new part comes with a key, you'll likely need to get that new key programmed to work with your car's immobilizer system. Volkswagen uses an anti-theft system that requires the key to be programmed so that the car recognizes it. The new key will turn the ignition without programming, but the car won't start. Also, keep in mind that this new key will not operate other lock cylinders, such as the door, trunk, or glove box. If you need more advice, have any other questions about your vehicle, or would like to get connected to a RepairPal Certified shop near you, we have you covered. Give us a call at 877-913-1554, and we will happily help you out!
