The cover came off and was put back on and then damaged by ice during late spring snow strm and could not be repaired. The replacement cost is$150.00 and I wondered if it was a necessity. I have a diesel engine.
In my opinion, I do not think you really need it. Its just there to water or other liquids that you may pass over from splashing into the engine compartment and other parts under the hood. I don't have my splash guard on my vehicle cause it was damaged and I'm not having any problems with it being off.
