I had new brake pads installed..now the brake pad sensor light is on...is this dangerous?

It's only dangerous if the brakes don't feel right, or if you hear any abnormal noises, but either way this needs to go back to the shop that performed the work on the brakes. It's likely there is an issue with the sensor, which is not dangerous, but shouldn't be on after a brake job.
unless you buy factory vw brake pads the new ones dont have the wire to tell the computer that they are good makeing the warning light useless
