Problem occurs at every startup. The dealer wanted to recharge the AC, but that is a joke, as the AC is plenty cold once the compressor kicks in. 5 to 7 minutes is an unacceptable delay, as we are hot and sweaty by the time we get cool air from the AC. Thanks!

take it to an independent AC shop. you really need an AC machine to test it, should be no more than like $80. I would not use it unless you wanna damage the system. it dosent come On because it is protecting it self
My car is doing the same thing... We took it to the dealer today, and spent 4 hours there for nothing. They tell me that it could be the compressor, but they are not certain. Guessing game that to start would cost me $1,081 .... I am inclined to believe that it is not the compressor. I'm inclined to think that it is a sensor or relay. The service advisor told me that german cars tend to take longer to cool ... can you believe that! He must think I'm stupid.
2006 Jetta A/C - same issue - it cools sometime and then blows hot air at other. No rhyme or reason. Replaced compressor, expansion valve, dryer, flush and vacuum. Did not fix problem. condensor coil was not replaced. Found to be "RIBBON TYPE" these cannot be flushed. (also called parallel flow) the tube type is called Tube and Fin Flow. The ribbon type is like a flat ribbon with many pin sized holes for the liquid to flow thru. Best type for max cooling but you cannot flush them out. Install a new one. If flow is restricted there it will cause intermittent issues. I am going to have it changed out next and another new expansion valve and drier and see what happens.
