my check engine lt is on and it has 2 codes p2181 which i belive to be the temp sensor & p0864 not to sure what that is can u help me them thanks

I got this error on my 2008 VW Passat. Took it to AutoZone and the code read (for free!). Check out the link for a picture of the reader. http://ge.tt/2WRggPJ/v/0?c It says "P0864 Transmission Control Module Commmunication Circuit Range/Performance".

The coolant temp sensor is easy to replace and goes bad all the time on these engines.

p2181 is for cooling system performance. this usually indicates a bad thermostat or something that prevents the temp from hitting a predetermined temp within a predetermined time. the p0864 fault is for trans communication circuit range/performance.
