my check engine lt is on and it has 2 codes p2181 which i belive to be the temp sensor & p0864 not to sure what that is can u help me them thanks

I got this error on my 2008 VW Passat. Took it to AutoZone and the code read (for free!). Check out the link for a picture of the reader. http://ge.tt/2WRggPJ/v/0?c It says "P0864 Transmission Control Module Commmunication Circuit Range/Performance".
The coolant temp sensor is easy to replace and goes bad all the time on these engines.
did you get a answer to this problem? I see it has been a while, but my care is reading same code. battery working, but not starting.
