Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Your 2003 Volkswagen Jetta not shifting into fourth gear could be caused by a few different issues. Common culprits include: 1. **Transmission Fluid**: Low or old transmission fluid can cause poor shifting performance. Check the fluid level and condition—if it's dark or smells burnt, it's time for a change. 2. **Transmission Solenoid**: If the solenoid that controls the shifting is faulty, the transmission may not shift properly. This often causes issues with specific gears. 3. **Valve Body Issues**: The valve body controls the fluid flow inside the transmission and can sometimes fail, leading to shifting problems. 4. **Clutch or Linkage Problem (if manual)**: If it's a manual transmission, the clutch or linkage could be misaligned or worn out, preventing the car from shifting properly into fourth. It’s a good idea to have a mechanic diagnose it, especially if the problem is related to the transmission itself, as this can get tricky and costly if ignored.
